Claire Becker-Horneker is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Missouri who has been practicing since 2019. She graduated from Emporia State University with two masters, one in Art Therapy and the other in Clinical Counseling.

Claire is experienced with incorporating art in the therapy process, using both verbal and visual processing has helped many clients learn different types of adaptive coping skills but has also helped clients learn to express themselves though metaphor, images, and verbal processing. Having art in the therapeutic process can help clients learn to regulate their body, provides bilateral stimulation in the brain, and creates space for many different uncomfortable emotions. Claire is a trauma informed therapist that uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as tools to help clients process and move though life’s challenges so that they can live a values-based meaningful life.

Outside of work Claire likes to go on long walks with her partner, read ridiculous books of all varieties, and spend time with her family. She loves hiking and visiting beautiful places in nature and has recently start to learn about foraging. As an art therapist she does her best to keep her creative process alive but the project changes day by day. Some days it is cross stitching while watching a goofy show, or other days she might make a gift for someone out of clay, then there are times that she likes to listen to music while doing a wood burning. With her art the creative process is more important to her than picking one type of art media, so she usually has many different projects going that have many different art mediums.
