About Hunter Ricks (He/Him)
Hunter Ricks, LPC, helps children, adolescents, teens, adults, and older adults navigate emotional and behavioral challenges with compassion, practical guidance, and evidence-based care. As a Licensed Professional Counselor at LifeStance Health, he serves patients throughout Virginia, providing individual therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy tailored to each person’s unique goals and circumstances. Hunter works with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, and trauma-related concerns, helping them build resilience, strengthen coping skills, and create lasting positive change. Hunter believes successful therapy starts with a genuine therapeutic relationship built on trust, respect, and collaboration. He works closely with patients and families to understand the factors influencing their mental health and develop personalized treatment plans that support growth and healing. His approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based strategies to help patients manage symptoms, improve emotional regulation, and achieve greater well-being. He also provides support through family and couples counseling and offers additional services for a variety of mental health concerns. A particular area of passion for Hunter is working with childhood behavior issues, school avoidance, and concerns affecting children and adolescents. He understands how emotional, behavioral, family, and academic challenges can impact a young person’s development and confidence. By partnering with both young patients and their caregivers, he helps families create effective strategies that promote healthy communication, improved functioning, and success at home, in school, and in daily life. In addition to serving a broad range of patients, Hunter has experience supporting members of the adoption and foster care community, military veterans, and first responders. He recognizes the unique experiences these populations may face and strives to provide a supportive environment where individuals feel heard, understood, and empowered throughout the therapeutic process. Outside of his clinical work, Hunter enjoys following sports, attending concerts, traveling, and exploring new food experiences.
