About Tim Hyer-Devine (He/Him)

Timothy Hyer-Devine, LPC is a therapist at LifeStance Health in Wisconsin. Practicing since 2022, Timothy is committed to helping individuals navigate their mental health challenges through a unique, educational style of counseling. Serving teens, adults, and seniors, Timothy is particularly passionate about men’s mental health, with a strong focus on addressing anxiety and depression—conditions that often go unnoticed and untreated in men. Through individual therapy, Timothy works to empower his clients, guiding them to recognize and break free from unhelpful patterns that hinder their ability to lead value-driven lives. Timothy’s approach is deeply influenced by his background in philosophy, which provides him with a distinctive perspective on mental health. He employs Socratic questioning to encourage clients to explore their thoughts and behaviors, leading them to their own insights and solutions. This method is particularly effective in helping men confront the mental health issues they may have previously overlooked or dismissed.

Timothy also supports clients dealing with later life and midlife transitions and issues related to faith, offering compassionate care for those facing significant changes or challenges in their lives. In addition to his work with men, Timothy extends his expertise to women and those experiencing psychosis or schizophrenia. He utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a primary intervention, helping clients accept their thoughts and feelings while committing to actions that align with their values. Timothy has also begun working in the area of Schema Therapy to help individuals who have not found standard treatment modalities to be effective for them. Schema therapy is an integrative form of psychotherapy designed to help individuals work through difficult adapted patterns of thought and feeling that developed in childhood to address unmet emotional needs. These schemas have remained into adulthood and are no longer adaptive creating difficulty in interpersonal relationships (Including personality disorders) and long term mental health.

His therapeutic style is both supportive and thought-provoking, encouraging clients to take an active role in their healing process. Outside of his professional life, Timothy enjoys reading, learning, and engaging in hobbies like bonsai and aquarium maintenance. He also loves spending time with family and friends, often over a board game. His dedication to continuous learning and personal growth mirrors the approach he brings to his counseling practice.
