About Julie Mayhew (She/Her)
Welcome,
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I emphasize a collaborative relationship with clients and believe healing begins when they feel truly heard, respected and empowered to move forward at their own pace. I work with adults navigating life transitions, emotional dysregulation or daily functioning impacting school, family or work. This may be due to mood disorders, relationship and family conflicts, work/economic challenges, loss & grief or health-related issues. I seek to assist individuals in therapy for the first time or someone stepping down from inpatient or other intensive levels of care to accomplish further stabilization and understanding of their illness and personalized application of coping skills for long-term recovery. I offer individual and family therapy based on your needs.
My therapeutic style combines clinical expertise with warmth and authenticity. I strive to provide a collaborative, non-judgmental and safe space where clients can explore concerns, validate their strengths and build effective coping skills to assist with meaningful change. I believe increased mindful awareness of thoughts, emotions, and physical experiences can help clients respond more intentionally and accomplish freedom from unhelpful behaviors interfering with desired progress towards personal goals and improved quality of life. Although I use a variety of evidenced-based therapeutic strategies, I primarily utilize Dialectical Behavioral therapy to provide core foundational skills of mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation and distress tolerance including both reality acceptance as well as crisis management skills. I have found these skills to be essential whether for overall well-being and management of life stressors or someone struggling with significant challenges with emotional dysregulation (anxiety, anger, hopelessness), relationship conflicts and safety or self harm concerns. I am focused on assisting with improved self compassion, identity and renewed capability and resilience.
I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in Community Health Education and my graduate education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. My professional approach emphasizes collaboration, respect, and personalized care, meeting each client where they are in their journey. Outside of her clinical work, I enjoy hanging out with my family and pets, gardening, reading, hiking, kayaking, working out at the gym, the arts and mindfulness meditation practice, especially in nature.
