Joseph Hefter, Therapist

Joseph Hefter, MSW, LCSW, CSAC, ICS

Joseph Hefter, LCSW helps adults and seniors across Wisconsin navigate life’s challenges by offering compassionate, evidence-based therapy tailored to each person’s unique needs. He provides a safe and nonjudgmental environment where clients can explore their thoughts and emotions, gain clarity, and build resilience. Whether someone is struggling with depression, anxiety, or the impact of substance use, Joseph works collaboratively to create treatment plans that promote lasting emotional well-being. With extensive experience in treating alcohol and drug use issues, PTSD/trauma, and bipolar disorder, Joseph is passionate about helping individuals break free from cycles that hold them back. He is skilled in using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR, in-person only) to address trauma, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients develop practical coping tools. His approach integrates mindfulness and self-compassion, empowering clients to live with purpose and stability. In addition to his core specialties, Joseph has a strong interest in supporting clients through grief, midlife transitions, and later life changes. He believes in addressing not only immediate symptoms but also the underlying patterns and beliefs that influence mental health. His goal is to help clients build confidence, reconnect with their values, and create fulfilling lives. Outside of his work at LifeStance Health, Joseph enjoys weightlifting, kayaking, running, pickleball, hiking, world travel, and living in the present moment.
