Debra Jean-Laurent MA, LCDP
Debra Jean-Laurent earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Rhode Island and her master’s degree in Agency Counseling with a Concentration in Chemical Dependency from Rhode Island College. She has been working in the field of mental health for over 30 years in a variety of behavioral health settings and has experience working with adults, children, teens and families who are struggling with a variety of issues. As a teenager I always knew that there were not enough places where others could go to breathe, to be, to experience unconditional acceptance, positive reflection and create alternative narratives and visions for themselves. I am passionate about self-discovery, exploration and healing. I have come to learn that a tremendous amount of people feel alone, disconnected, anxious and fearful. In the therapeutic relationship Debra helps her clients to see that they all have value. When I see people struggle, I want to reach out to encourage and help. We all need a helping hand. I am deeply honored to be trusted with my client’s deepest secrets and help them with the goal being able to find healthy and effective solutions. Debra works with individuals who are looking to gain insight into themselves and improve their quality of life. She seeks to understand their backgrounds and strengths that they already possess to provide a client centered individualized approach. Debra believes that having a strong alliance with her clients is essential to getting the most out of therapy and creating lasting change and personal life satisfaction. Through this relationship she partners with her clients to explore and address thought and behavior patterns that serve as barriers to living their best lives. Debra believes that every client is a unique individual with the power to change.
