Mary Lockwood believes each individual has the capacity for change. Each individual is “the” expert on his or her own life and already has the answers. She provides a safe environment for individuals to begin trusting themselves to explore the current barriers negatively affecting their ability to achieve a more balanced life. She sincerely believes beginning or returning to counseling is one of the most important decisions a person can make to improve one’s overall mental, emotional, and physical health. Mary has extensive experience working with individuals who have experienced symptoms from anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, chronic trauma, PTSD and substance abuse. She is compassionate about working collaboratively with each individual to achieve a sense of empowerment, well-being and balance. Mary has been fortunate to have gained experience for the past 15 years in a wide variety of mental health settings – community mental health, inpatient and outpatient alcohol and drug treatment facilities, residential adolescent hospital, psychiatric hospital and in several private counseling practices. Her eclectic approach involves, but is not limited to, various psychotherapeutic modalities, including Psychoeducation, CBT, Psychodynamic, Mindfulness-based, Client-Centered, Motivational Interviewing, ACT. Mary is passionate about continuing her training to meet today’s complex challenges, with the completion of but not limited to virtual Telehealth. She believes in the transformative power of psychotherapy and in each individual’s ability to change and heal. Mary works closely with each individual during this process of reconnection, rebalancing.
