Psychiatrist in Los Angeles, California Michele Wang, Psychiatrist

Dr. Wang was born and raised in Los Angeles. She finished her undergraduate studies at the University of California, San Diego with a degree in Literature and graduated with a medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco. During medical school, Dr. Wang worked with the Ministry of Health in Peru looking at adolescent attitudes towards substance abuse. The following year, the American Psychiatric Association awarded her funding for smoking cessation research at Langley Porter, UCSF.

Dr. Wang completed psychiatry residency program at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, followed by a public psychiatry fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. During residency, the New York Psychoanalytic Institute awarded her a year long fellowship to study psychoanalytic principles. She also completed the Global Health Residency Tract with the Ministry of Health in Belize where she developed national treatment protocols for Depression, Anxiety, and Schizophrenia.

Dr. Wang has had a wide variety of clinical experiences since she started her psychiatric practice in 2007 and has a license to practice medicine in Texas, Hawaii, California and New York. She was an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Hawai’i, Manoa. In her spare time, she has volunteered with the Entertainment Industries Council which advocates for accurate portrayal of mental health and substance abuse issues in entertainment and media. She also reviews research articles for Academic Psychiatry and has been an active board member of the Hawaii Psychiatric Medical Association.
