Julia Hamlett is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Colorado who has been practicing since 2020. She graduated with her Master of Social Work and Animal-Assisted Social Work Certificate at the University of Denver – Graduate School of Social Work and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Human Services from Stevenson University. Julia’s experience spans a wide range of concerns including anxiety-related disorders, depression, trauma, bipolar disorder, ADHD, familial/relational conflicts, gender identity, women’s issues, men’s issues, emotion identification and regulation, grief, attachment wounds, transitional life experiences, and work/school related stress.

She has always held a deep appreciation for the impact animals can have on our healing and overall well-being. This passion has led her to research, explore, and practice Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) as a specialized modality within the therapeutic process. In Julia’s practice of AAT, her therapy dog Kona acts as a “co-therapist,” providing added safety, acceptance, empathy, compassion, and comfort. Kona will work alongside Julia on her in-person office days. Her gentle presence, humor, and unconditional positive regard help create a space where clients feel empowered to explore their emotions, confront challenges, and work towards their therapeutic goals.

They are thrilled to be a support for our clients in this journey! In addition to AAT, Julia utilizes a trauma-informed care approach and interventions best suitable for client(s) needs, such as person-centered, strength-based, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), art therapies, play therapy, motivational interviewing (MI), solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), somatic and mindfulness practices, and other psychoeducation and skill building practices (i.e. healthy relationships, behavioral skill building, parental skill building, communication skills, internet and relational safety, etc.). Julia is also pursuing training in internal family systems (IFS) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) to further support clients with trauma in their healing journeys.

In her free time, you can find Julia hiking in the mountains, weightlifting at the gym, at a yoga class, reading, painting, at a game night with friends, exploring the various yummy foods/treats Colorado has to offer, going for long walks with Kona and her partner, or traveling.
