Shashonna is a Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health and a Certified Advanced Alcohol & Drug Counselor. She earned her Undergraduate Degree in Human Services with a Minor in Business from Elon University and earned her Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina A&T State University. Shashonna is passionate about connecting, motivating, and helping individuals from all walks of life. She has been working in the mental health field for 14 years. During this time, she has gained valuable academic training and visceral experiences that help her meet individuals where they are and empower them to heal, grow, and meet their therapeutic goals. She enjoys working with a mix of mental health and substance use clients that range from adolescents to older adults, couples, and families. She utilizes a variety of approaches, such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Stages of Change, Motivational Interviewing, Reality Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy. Her goals as a therapist are to help individuals heal, increase their self-awareness, improve their ability to cope with the ups and downs of life, identify and change unhealthy patterns, and reach their goals. To be a positive influence in the lives of others, is very important to her. She is also an LGBTQIAP and body positive ally. Shashonna believes that the first step to helping individuals is creating an environment that is non-judgmental, safe, and compassionate which allows them to be their true selves. When we feel connected, supported, and validated our ability to grow is unstoppable.
