Madeleine Matthews, MS, LPC

Hi, I’m Madeleine Matthews, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) dually licensed in Georgia and South Carolina. I received my undergraduate education at the University of South Carolina in 2020, where I double-majored in Experimental Psychology and Dance Performance and Choreography with a minor in Criminal Justice. My graduate degree – a Master of Science in Clinical and Counseling Psychology – was attained at Augusta University in 2023. Notably, I additionally received a national certification in Victim Advocacy through the University of Georgia in 2020. My career as a helper began as a volunteer with the Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands in 2020, where I served to answer crisis hotline calls for survivors of sexual abuse and/or intimate partner violence. My clinical internship was completed at Hope House, Inc. – a non-profit rehabilitation program for women – in Augusta, GA, where I worked full-time as a Residential Clinical Counselor for three years. As such, I specialize in working with adult women navigating substance use, mood disorders, and the lasting impact of trauma. While my approach to therapy is strongly influenced by both the modality in which I first learned how to be a helper (psychodynamic) and the orientation that I use most in practice today (cognitive-behavioral therapy), my style could best be described as integrative. In general, sessions with me could be described as exploratory and insightful. My approach centers on helping you connect more deeply with your inner experience, understanding how the past shapes the present, and identifying patterns that may no longer serve you. Together, we’ll work to break maladaptive cycles and create the opportunity for meaningful, lasting change. In our first few sessions, you can expect a thoughtful and thorough process. I’ll ask questions to better understand your story, and we’ll begin building a foundation where you can feel safe—even when exploring subjects that feel uncomfortable. Growth often starts in those spaces. I strive to create an environment where all topics are welcome. I am open to diverse lifestyles, perspectives, and ways of being, and I aim to meet you with curiosity, respect, and authenticity. I am deeply passionate about this work because I believe progress is possible—and that no one has to suffer in silence.
