Avis China is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia who has been practicing since 2020. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Francis Marion University and a master’s degree in Counseling at Webster University. Avis works with children, adolescents, adults and their families with expertise and interpersonal skills that contribute to overcoming dependencies, managing mental health, and adjusting to life. Age range 8-50 years old. She uses motivational interviewing as one of her approaches in an individual’s treatment journey. The design of motivational interviewing is to assist the individual in going about making change even if he/she is unsure of how to make the change. It builds on the belief that the first step in developing a therapeutic relationship is by getting a conversation started. The focus then is a conversation on behavior change and seeing change as an option. Avis expresses empathy through reflective listening, communicates respect and acceptance of the individual’s feelings, supports self-efficacy and optimism by focusing on strengths that support the optimism and hope needed to make change. She has experience with a wide range of behavioral health issues to include trauma, depression, anxiety, and juvenile sex offending. Avis utilizes a variety of techniques from methods such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy to meet individual’s needs. In her spare time, Avis enjoys enhancing personal growth, traveling, spending time with family and friends, painting and poetry.
