Joel Filmore, MA, LCPC,
About Joel Filmore (He/Him)
Joel Filmore, LCPC, helps teens, adults, and older adults throughout Illinois navigate emotional challenges, relationship concerns, and life transitions with practical support and compassionate care. As a licensed counselor at LifeStance Health, he provides individual, couples, family, and group therapy for patients seeking relief from anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Joel works collaboratively with each patient to identify strengths, build resilience, and create meaningful strategies for lasting emotional wellness. A particular area of passion for Joel is helping individuals and couples establish healthy boundaries within their relationships. He understands that unclear expectations, communication difficulties, and recurring conflict can create stress and emotional distance. Through a thoughtful and balanced approach, Joel helps patients strengthen self-awareness, improve communication, and develop healthier relationship patterns that support personal growth and connection. Joel’s therapeutic style draws from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based interventions. These methods help patients gain insight into their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while developing skills to respond more effectively to life’s challenges. In addition to his primary specialties, he supports individuals facing concerns related to bipolar disorder, grief, substance use, gender identity, later-life transitions, and other mental health needs. He believes successful therapy begins with a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, respect, and authenticity. Whether helping a teen manage emotional difficulties, supporting an adult through major life changes, or guiding couples toward healthier interactions, Joel tailors treatment to each patient’s goals and circumstances. Joel earned degrees from Northern Illinois University, Roosevelt University, and the University of Illinois Chicago. His diverse educational background contributes to a comprehensive understanding of mental health and relationship dynamics across the lifespan. Outside of his clinical practice, Joel enjoys video gaming, writing fiction, reading, and creating natural soaps. These creative and intellectual pursuits reflect his appreciation for curiosity, imagination, and lifelong learning.
