Stephen Sullivan, MA, LCPC
Specializes In:
Stephen Sullivan is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Illinois who has been practicing since 2018. He has a bachelor’s degree in theology and a master’s degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling from Concordia University. Stephen sees huge value in building a trusting relationship with his clients and providing them with an objective and non-judgmental point of view during sessions. As a therapist, Stephen prioritizes creating an open space for clients to safely share their story. He finds that this gives people permission to develop a loving and secure relationship with themselves. Stephen specializes in working with adolescents, adults, and couples who are dealing with challenges in their lives. He has a wealth of experience working with people who are going through anxiety, addiction, depression, trauma, mood/behavioral challenges, and couples/relationship issues. He utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches, personalized to each client’s needs. Some strategies he uses are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and trauma-informed therapy. Stephen can also provide spiritual counseling, specifically Christian-based counseling. Outside of work, Stephen is a member of a Wing Chun martial arts class where they practice both self-defense and shaolin meditation techniques. He listens to tons of stand-up comedy and is a huge fan of the Star Talk podcast since it’s a great mix of both comedy and science content. He is also rather an admirer of the astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson; he listens to and reads most of his content and sees him live whenever he has a lecture in Chicagoland. He loves to barbecue on his back porch whenever the weather cooperates…or not. He has also been working on his lawncare skills since he purchased his house. He spends his weekends goofing off with his wife and children and spoiling their two pet cats.
