I started my college education at Passaic Community College where I received my associate’s degree in Liberal Arts. While I was in community college, I thoroughly enjoyed my psychology courses and was interested in learning more about the human mind, and behavior. From community college, I transferred to William Paterson University where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I decided I wanted to continue my education to earn my master’s degree and attended Montclair State University for Clinical Mental Health Counseling. It was my empathetic nature, interest in addiction, and desire to learn more about mental health that aided me towards my graduate school journey. I completed my clinical internship at a community outpatient counseling clinic at Montclair State University. During my time as a clinician, I worked with a variety of clients, including children, adolescents, young adults, and adults. I provided individual, couples, family, and group counseling. I strive to create a non-judgmental environment for my clients where they feel welcomed, respected, heard, and have the support they deserve while collaboratively working towards their goals. The most rewarding part about being a mental health counselor is being able to witness individuals bettering themselves and overcoming obstacles whether they are big or small. As a counselor, I know that every individual is unique; therefore, I work with the client based on their needs and at a pace they are comfortable with, while also trying to challenge them in making steps towards their progress. The theoretical orientations I incorporate into my counseling sessions are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy Approach, Psychoeducation, Supportive, and Mindfulness. I am a firm believer that our thoughts and feelings influence our behavior. The first step in creating change starts with self-awareness. We will work to identify any dysfunctional and distorted thoughts in order to work towards actively modifying and challenging negative beliefs and patterns. As the clinician, I am here to work with the client on whatever it may be that they would like to achieve. That being said, sometimes it is appropriate to work through areas in the past in order to help aid growth in the future. I am a supporter of the idea that creating balance is essential to self-care. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family. I love cooking and trying new delicious places to dine. To decompress, I like to watch shows and movies of various genres. I really hope to travel more in the future to experience various lifestyles and cultures. I have two dogs who I adore who fill my life with love and laughter.
