Dr. Shubert is a licensed clinical social worker who has 20 years of experience in working with individual adults and couples in both community health and group practice settings. She tailors her work with clients to match their circumstances and needs, drawing on a variety of techniques based on cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, supportive, and solution-based therapy principles. Jan is experienced in dealing with depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, adjustment disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, stress management, relationship problems, and grief and trauma-related issues. Previously, Dr. Shubert spent 24 years working for a large federal agency where she developed and led a Critical Incident Stress Management Team to support the agency’s emergency responders. In her capacity as the team leader, she also introduced the use of crisis assistance dogs in disaster response settings. Jan also managed programs to involve communities in protecting important local resources. Dr. Shubert received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from The Catholic University in Washington, DC and her PhD in Human Development from Fielding Graduate University. Jan’s doctoral research focused on the relationships between people and dogs and how dogs can provide therapeutic and daily living assistance to individuals and children.
