Sarah is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School. She has worked as a clinician in community mental health and private clinics, in addition to being a one-on-one behavioral coach in both elementary and middle school settings. Sarah has experience helping children, adults, and couples understand and create solutions for issues including: anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, parent coaching, relationship issues, emotion dysregulation, conflict resolution, behavioral challenges and social skills deficits. Sarah says, “Most often clients come to counseling with a tension—something isn’t working, doesn’t make sense, hurts too much, or is affecting core areas of life too seriously to ignore anymore. My desire for every client is that they finish our work more empowered to understand and care for their own feelings, more confident to problem solve conflict and self-advocate, strengthened to more fully experience both vulnerability and success, and with an understanding of how they relate to the world that allows them to have the relationships they crave and establish the boundaries they need to thrive.” Sarah uses Motivational Interviewing to assess and explore client desire for change and what needs are being met by remaining the same. CBT gives Sarah language to build client awareness as to how their actions were decided in the moment they interpreted the situation and imagination for other interpretations and outcomes. Sarah is an EMDR trained therapist and uses it in her practice to reprocess memories and experiences that the brain has stored in a maladaptive emotion state using bilateral stimulation. Psychodynamic talk therapy is Sarah’s primary treatment modality because she believes the foundation of therapy is relationship and we are transformed by an authentic encounter with another person resulting in a different relationship with ourselves and those around us. Sarah is currently only seeing clients virtually, which allows for accessibility to see your counselor from home, work, or travel within Washington State. She has successfully adapted her practice and tools to be effective to provide the same level of warm and engaged care clients feel in-office via a telehealth platform.
