Douglas Whalen, Therapist

Douglas Whalen, LICSW

Douglas Whalen, LICSW helps adults and seniors in Washington navigate emotional and psychological challenges with warmth, clinical precision, and a strong sense of personal connection. Practicing at LifeStance Health, he offers individual therapy to clients facing a wide range of life stressors, supporting them in developing insight, emotional resilience, and practical tools for lasting change. He works with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and issues related to midlife transitions, offering care that’s grounded in evidence-based methods and tailored to each person’s unique goals and strengths. Douglas brings particular focus to supporting those experiencing significant life transitions—especially individuals facing grief, loss, or adjusting to new roles in midlife and beyond. His clinical approach recognizes that these periods can be marked by both pain and possibility. He works collaboratively with clients to process loss, rediscover meaning, and find paths toward renewed purpose. His calm, consistent presence and ability to hold space for complex emotions are key strengths in helping clients move through periods of uncertainty or identity shifts. In therapy, Douglas draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Exposure Therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches to create an integrative plan that meets clients where they are. He provides care to both men and women and is particularly attuned to the emotional and psychological needs of men who may be new to therapy or uncertain about seeking help. In addition to his primary specialties, he offers treatment for additional concerns, guided by a respectful, client-centered approach. Outside of his clinical work, Douglas enjoys staying active year-round with gym workouts and jogging, as well as hiking and paddleboarding in the summer and skiing in the winter. He loves spending time with his grandchildren and unwinding with a good espionage novel by Daniel Silva.
