Nikhil Teja, M.D. is a psychiatrist with a medical license to practice in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. During training at the White River Junction Veteran’s Administration, Dr. Teja underwent additional training in treatment-resistant mood disorders and electroconvulsive therapy. Dr. Teja then completed an Addiction Psychiatry fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. Dr. Teja completed his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine with a prestigious academic scholarship. He completed post-baccalaureate premedical training at the University of Maryland and received his undergraduate degree from the London School of Economics in the United Kingdom. Dr. Teja has received numerous awards and scholarships throughout all stages of his career. He has varied life experience, having worked in finance and audio engineering prior to his career in medicine and has lived on 3 different continents.
Dr. Teja has a particular fondness of teaching and has over a decade of experience instructing pre-medical and medical students. He has also served as an instructor and supervisor for residents in the Adult Psychiatry Residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock and has offered seminars on addictive disease for physicians in other specialties. This love for teaching is evident in all his clinical interactions as he strives to educate patients on psychiatric conditions and their treatments. Dr. Teja has been involved in psychiatric research and presented findings at the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) national conference, recently recognized with a travel award for his work in the field.
Dr. Teja has a wide breadth of clinical experience in a variety of treatment settings including the following: inpatient psychiatric units, community health treatment centers, outpatient clinics, residential substance abuse treatment, office-based substance abuse treatment, in home recovery and detox, veteran affairs hospitals, dual diagnosis residential treatment facilities, emergency room psychiatry, integrated care (Rheumatology) and consultation psychiatry. From this diverse experience, Dr. Teja is able to craft an individually tailored treatment plan that incorporates the latest evidence-based interventions. Dr. Teja has taken a particular interest in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and integrates this into his treatment approach.
