Daniela M. Zbona, Ph.D,
About Daniela M. Zbona (She/Her)
Dr. Zbona is a postdoctoral fellow in clinical psychology with particular clinical and research interests in trauma and PTSD. She provides individual and group psychotherapy to adults and older adults, taking an evidence-based, integrative approach to understanding the complex factors that shape mental health, behavior, and well-being. She works with individuals experiencing trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, sleep difficulties, alcohol and substance use concerns, and challenges related to major life and career transitions. She has experience working with military veterans, first responders, individuals with histories of childhood, interpersonal, sexual, and other forms of trauma, and LGBTQ+ individuals.
Her therapeutic work is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and integrates evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), , Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness-based interventions. She emphasizes careful assessment, individualized case conceptualization, and culturally responsive care, tailoring treatment to each patient’s history, strengths, circumstances, and goals. Dr. Zbona brings an empathic, attuned, and nonjudgmental presence to her clinical work and prioritizes developing a strong therapeutic relationship. She approaches therapy as a collaborative process, seeking to understand not only the concerns that bring someone to treatment, but also the experiences, relationships, and broader context that may underlie current patterns of distress. She works with patients to deepen insight, develop more adaptive ways of responding to difficult thoughts and emotions, and translate therapeutic gains into meaningful change in their daily lives.
Dr. Zbona earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Alliant University in San Diego, California. As part of her doctoral training, she completed her doctoral internship at VA Connecticut Healthcare System in West Haven, Connecticut, with focused experience in trauma, PTSD, and co-occurring conditions. Prior to her doctoral training, she completed a postbaccalaureate program in Clinical Psychology at Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California, and earned her MD from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Iuliu Hațieganu” in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Her involvement in both medical and psychological research has included work examining trauma, resilience, individual differences, and related behavioral health outcomes and continues to inform her commitment to integrating scientific knowledge with individualized clinical care.
During the postdoctoral fellowship, Dr. Zbona provides services under supervision.
