About Joe Scott (He/Him)

Dr. Joseph Scott is a Psychiatrist in Maine who has been practicing since 2016. He has a Bachelor’s of Science, Psychology Major, Pre-Med Track from Northeastern University, went to Medical School at University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed his Residency in Psychiatry from Rowan University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Scott strives to treat the whole person, not just one or two symptoms. He gets to know his patients and listens to everything they have to tell him. Dr. Scott then likes to educate them about what he sees and how the different treatment options can help. In this way they can make good decisions about treatment and goals. Outside of work, Dr. Scott enjoys live performances, from Broadway shows to small community theater and from stadium concerts to small intimate venues. He is a gardener, a fisherman, a player of games, and a cook. His wife says he is a collector of junk, but they enjoy combing the beach together looking for treasures. He’s mostly a Dad to his beautiful children. What could be better?

See what our patients are saying about Joe Scott

Extremely professional, well run organization with excellent customer service and so far excellent practitioners. The procedure for coming and going to appointments is almost annoying because of how many reminders and prompts that the clients receive, but I bet it is very successful in making sure that clients keep their appointments in mind. Dr. Joe Scott is exactly the perfect psychiatrist because he allows the client to self guide the areas of concern, reflects on all aspects to be inclusive without rushing them, all the time assessing them in a comprehensive and compassionate way in a holistic manner. He has an excellent ability to remember small details that make one feel heard and respected. I wish more psychiatrists would use this style and approach.

Dr. Joseph Scott is the most amazing psychiatrist that I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with! He’s kind, caring, and he always takes your feelings and thoughts into consideration! As a forensic psychology major, I’ve also learned a tremendous amount of valuable knowledge from him simply by the way he treats his patients! If you have the ability to see Dr. Scott, consider yourself lucky enough to have a great experience while dealing with and learning about your diagnosis through his amazing approach to psychiatry. He’s truly caring about his patients and how you think and feel. I personally feel truly blessed to not only work with him on my mental health, but to get to know him on a personal level is truly an amazing privilege!

Dr. Scott is excellent. I have had very productive conversations with with him, and he doesn't use the sterotypical, clinical, stark approach that I have experienced with other providers. Dr. Scott does an excellent job with listening, offering advice and following through. I always feel comfortable speaking with him, and he has helped immensely in navigating the snares the accompany medication management, particularly when I often encounter the stigma that surrounds my prescriptions. I have also had a great deal of help from Brianna, a staff member, who has done an excellent job steering me to the correct resources if I needed to resolve any confusion. I am very pleased with the demeanor and level of service I receive!

I have been seeing Dr. Scott for nearly a year now and I honestly cannot say a single negative about him. He listens attentively when I have concerns and questions, he doesn’t push medication on me against my will and instead wants to support me with information before making any decisions, and for the medication I am already on, he has no interest in adjusting my doses unless I feel that something is off. I am typically wary of male doctors due to negative past experiences (ladies, IYKYK), but I honestly have felt so safe and secure with Dr. Scott, and I often look forward to our appointments as he is very cheery and always ready to help someone crack a smile.

Dr. Scott is not a provider that pushes for answers. He figures this out while we have our sessions. Dr. Scott challenges me in a good way. I refer what I call "homework assignments" (a question he will ask) where I figure out what the true answer is based on my life history and experience. The the answer to a question he proposes is answered at the next session. And if need be, we discuss I write out the answer to make it as clear as possible. I would recommend him to individuals not looking to be pushed for answers.

I had my initial consultation with the doctor last week. I found him to be extremely engaging, knowledgeable, professional, and empathetic. He understands the latest pharmacology and pharmacokinetics and applies it using evidence based medicine to his practice. I really liked my first visit with him.
