Gerhardt Wagner, M.D, Ph.D. is an ABPN board-certified psychiatrist who has two decades of experience in the field. He is passionate about empowering individuals to achieve lasting mental wellness through a comprehensive, whole-person approach. Dr. Wagner employs treatment modalities that often do not involve the use of controlled substances, providing a desirable option for this group of patients. Following completion of his Bachelor of Arts and Science from Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota, Dr. Wagner earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Immunology and Virology at the University of California-Davis where he was a primary author of numerous publications including novel therapeutic strategies for combating HIV infection. After his four-year doctorate program, Dr. Wagner attended Creighton Medical School in Omaha, Nebraska, before doing his residency at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in North Carolina where he was elected chief resident by his peers. During his residency at Wake Forest, Dr. Wagner published numerous articles on electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) as well as the negative impact depression has on cognitive functioning.
