Liz Michaud is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California who has been practicing since 2013. She has an MA in Counseling Psychology from California Institute of Integral Studies and a BFA in Illustration from Rochester Institute of Technology. Liz works with adult clients one-on-one who are seeking support with anxiety, depression, and/or trauma recovery. For those who struggle with self-esteem, self-confidence, and a tendency to self-sabotage, she offers support that can facilitate meaningful growth and change.

Liz’s approach is inspired by Internal Family Systems (IFS), Drama Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). She specializes in helping her clients to build healthier relationships with themselves, inside of themselves. She believes that the most important relationship that you’ll ever have is the one you have with yourself. She believes that our relationship with ourselves often influences how we relate to other people, how we make choices and how confident we feel about our ability to achieve our dreams. If you experience anxiety, depression, and/or you have experienced trauma, I encourage you to consider reaching out to Liz. She may be able to help you understand what is happening, and work toward resolving inner-conflict.

Her interventions inspired by Internal Family Systems, also known as IFS, allow her to work with trauma in creative, non-shaming and deeply transformative ways. She utilizes therapeutic interventions inspired by Drama Therapy and Gestalt Therapy which allow her clients to experience authentic emotional connection with themselves. This can help access self-compassion, which we all need more of. She also integrates elements of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) into her approach to empower clients with actionable tools. This can help her clients deal with emotions, improve their relationships and access wisdom in ways that honor each individual’s unique identity, culture and lived experience.

Liz sees herself as part-artist, part-philosopher, and part-teenager, no matter how old she gets. She has always marched to the beat of her own drum and feels passionate about constantly learning and growing in this complex and complicated world. Liz is excited about the vast amount there is to learn in life. She takes kindness seriously, and social justice seriously, but tries not to take herself too seriously. Liz believes that this beautiful, soulful, messy world is reflected in each of us in our own unique way. She values thinking about our inner lives with as much awe and curiosity as we bring to our appreciation for science, art, society, spirituality, and more.

Her creativity allows her to trust her intuition, which in turn helps her clients trust their own. Liz’s inner philosopher thinks critically about the world, who she is, and what it means to be human. She finds this aspect of herself helpful in supporting her clients to expand their perspectives on how they think about themselves and their ability to navigate the world around them. Finally, Liz’s inner teenager doesn’t take life too seriously. She knows how to be messy, have a good laugh, challenge the status quo, and is also a sensitive, gentle soul who fumbles, learns, and grows just like everyone else.
