Alex Baca, LPC

How does one find purpose and community in an increasingly hostile world and country? Is it the individual that is disordered or is it our society and the systems we are expected to operate within? It has been said that it is no measure of health to be well-adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

Are there conversations around more nebulous and nuanced ideas that you are desperately wanting to have, but are seemingly shut down at every turn? I aim to create a space for you to explore those ideas, whatever they are. Whether you seek to explore more complex ideas, your sense of self, navigating the complexities of interpersonal relationships, or to gain a deeper sense of the world around you, I am glad to be along for the journey.

I am a gay identifying therapist who seeks to create space for those within the LGBTQIA+ community, as shared experience and understanding can be the most therapeutic and affirming for those within the community. In my free time I enjoy frequenting the many great record stores around Chicago, seeing live music, and discovering all the gems the city has to offer.

With all clients, I believe that it is most important to meet each client where they are in their journeys and to present as my most authentic self. After all, I am also experiencing the world in real time with you! In doing so, I aim to create a warm and welcoming environment that encourages my clients to do the work they have come to do.

It is very important to note that the culture of instant gratification does not and often cannot exist in the therapeutic process. Change is gradual and at times difficult, but most of all change takes action—one cannot want things to be different and also have an unwillingness to do things differently.

As a therapist in a post pandemic world, I believe that it is of utmost importance to practice within an anti-colonial, anti-capitalist, anti-racist, and anti-white supremacy framework. In therapy, I use techniques like person-centered and narrative therapy, family systems, acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), and more to help clients achieve their therapy goals.

I look forward to connecting with you!
