Alexandra Parker, MSW, LCSW
Specializes In:
Having been born and raised in Florida, I moved to Illinois to pursue a career in mental health. I graduated with a Masters in Social Work from University of Illinois- Champaign Urbana. I know first hand how it can be both exciting and anxiety provoking to do something outside of your comfort zone. I also understand how experiences through childhood and our cultural environment shape how we see the world.
My philosophy and approach to therapy is creating a positive experience and safe environment for clients to process their feelings, problem solve, and accomplish personal goals for growth. I believe that it’s important to approach clients with kindness, warmth and without judgement. I emphasize that the human experience is about making mistakes and there is great strength in acknowledging and learning from those experiences and being able to move forward. To me therapy and treatment is an ongoing process that is unique to the individual. I am always open to learning new skills and trying new approaches.
I have worked with children, adolescents and adults with a range of diagnoses, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, autism, and personality disorders. I use many therapeutic modalities including play and art therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy. I have worked with families and couples to address issues including family roles and parenting styles, relationship struggles, boundary setting, communication, trust, and intimacy .
In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my dogs and cat while watching movies and musicals and reading psychological thrillers or fantasy series.
