About Maggie Stohner (She/Her)

I’m Margaret Stohner, LCSW, and I support teens, adults, and older adults across Illinois as they work toward stability, insight, and meaningful change—especially during life’s most overwhelming moments. At LifeStance Health, I provide individual, couples, and family therapy for clients ages 15 and up, offering structured, evidence‑based care tailored to each person’s goals.

A major focus of my work is supporting individuals who have recently been discharged from psychiatric hospitalization. I’m passionate about helping clients transition safely back into daily life, emphasizing relapse prevention, emotional regulation, and rebuilding confidence after crisis. I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to strengthen coping skills, increase psychological flexibility, and create sustainable recovery plans.

Beyond hospital step‑down care, I work with ADHD, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, trauma, mood instability, and life transitions. I also provide couples and family therapy to help improve communication and restore connection during stressful periods. I have experience supporting LGBTQ+ clients, military veterans, first responders, and individuals with developmental disabilities.

My therapeutic style balances warmth with clinical clarity. I collaborate closely with clients to clarify values, set meaningful goals, and build practical strategies that translate into real‑world change. I believe therapy should feel validating, grounded, and forward moving.

Outside of my clinical work, I’m an avid quilter, a devoted cat lover, and a fan of alternative, punk, and rock music.
