Ariel Zaksenberg is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York who has been practicing since 2018. Ariel believes a therapist’s job is to help people get “unstuck.” She works collaboratively with patients to improve their awareness (behaviorally, emotionally, and somatically) and interrupt repetitive patterns so that they feel increasingly in control of personal choices. Her clinical style is rooted in curiosity, neutrality, and attunement. Ariel helps people make meaning of stressful and traumatic circumstances so that their life’s narrative feels understood in new and insightful ways. This work is often done by intentionally looking at an individual’s personal experience in the context of their early relational environment. Ariel believes that in psychotherapy, repeated successful attunements, rupture and repairs, and positive affective moments transform early representations and are what create long-lasting change. A current student and life-long learner, her practice is informed by both traditional psychoanalytic ideals as well as innovative approaches based on current research. Ariel has five years of experience working across the lifespan and with diverse populations. She has worked extensively with complex trauma and PTSD, as well as issues of attachment, anxiety, depression, etc. Ariel is trained in the Child-Parent Psychotherapy model, an evidenced-based dyadic treatment that works with mothers and children 0-5 who have experienced trauma. Additionally, Ariel works with teens and adolescents and has proven success in helping them foster a deeper understanding of themselves thus leading to increased motivation and self-control. Ariel has also worked individually with adult patients, and practices within modalities such as relational and intersubjective psychotherapy and self-psychological psychoanalysis. The mind is a complex organism, and frequently there is more present in a situation than just what people say. Ariel wants to show people just how much more they have to talk about and allow their gears to spin in new ways. In her free time, Ariel enjoys travel and all the adventures that come with it, like scuba diving, camping, and hiking! She loves seeing live music and on occasion dabbles in poetry writing and painting with watercolors.
