Rebecca Sumien is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York who has been practicing since 2019. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from SUNY Cortland and a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Touro College. Rebecca follows a person-centered and strengths-based approach when working with clients. She focuses on empowering clients to face and work through their challenges by utilizing unconditional positive regard, optimism, empathy, hope, as well as assisting clients in developing insight into their emotions and behaviors. Rebecca believes most importantly in meeting the client where they are and being a guide to their change in a non-judgmental environment. Rebecca believes in holding the client’s needs foremost and creating a space for clients to truly be able to express themselves freely. Outside of work, Rebecca enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She relishes trying new things, including activities that involve getting out in nature, as well as exploring various culinary delights. She considers herself a “foodie” and is open to trying any new dish as well as experimenting with cooking new dishes. She finds joy in spending time with her husky, who particularly enjoys going on long walks. Most importantly, she has a passion for traveling and has visited 21 different countries/states throughout her life, eagerly anticipating the opportunity to continue exploring all the beauty this world has to offer.
