Experience and Background: As a licensed clinical social worker and health care administrator, I have over 25 years of experience in providing quality, client-centered therapeutic interventions to a variety of populations, to include comprehensive diagnosis and treatment planning. I prefer to use a solution-focused therapy that identifies chronic and acute symptoms and then looks for healthy, realistic solutions. I believe that every human being is important and has great potential for success and happiness. Furthermore, I strongly believe that everyone has the capacity to heal and recover, given the right tools and interventions. I love working with families and individuals from age 2 to 102. I use play therapy with small children and also provide beginning and advanced training in parenting skills. Finally, I have a great deal of experience working with acute and past trauma, grief and loss, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, mood disorders, somatic disorders, substance abuse and sex addiction, personality disorders and psychotic disorders. About Me: I am a 6th generation Oregonian from the Eugene/Springfield area. During my early studies, I travelled extensively and spent time in Mexico teaching English. I earned my degree in Theology/Biblical Languages and Spanish Literature from Southwestern Adventist University in 1996. I returned to school in 1998 and completed my degree in clinical social work with an emphasis in addiction pharmacology from Walla Walla University in Washington State in 2002. From 1998 to 2002 I also worked as a certified addiction specialist for Lourdes Counseling Center. In 2002, I moved to Madras, Oregon and started work for BestCare Treatment Services. Over the next 6-years my family and I remained in Central Oregon where I helped develop curriculum and manage an inpatient dual diagnosis program for the Spanish speaking population. During my time there I also provided outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment, family therapy, child therapy, domestic violence treatment and juvenile sex offender treatment. I moved back to Lane County in 2008 and began working at PeaceHealth. During my 9-years with PeaceHealth, I worked as a crisis counselor in the emergency department, provided consult services on the medical floor and then served as clinical supervisor at the Johnson Unit (inpatient behavioral health unit) for the last 3-years. As for family, my wife and I have raised 6 children together and also served as foster parents. From 2005 to 2008 we also provided in-home and end of life care for geriatric patients. As for my personal hobbies, they include wildlife exploration, camping, wildlife survival, fishing, gardening, rockhounding, gold mining and metal detecting. I also like to spend my spare time building and creating things in my workshop. I look forward to meeting you and becoming part of your journey to recovery and happiness.
