Nathan Black, MSW, LCSW,
About Nathan Black (He/Him)
Life can be difficult. Whether you are experiencing depression, anxiety, navigating the effects of trauma, facing relationship challenges, struggling with ADHD or feeling overwhelmed by life’s transitions, you do not have to face these challenges alone. Your mental health matters. You deserve a space where you can feel heard, understood and supported. You deserve opportunities to heal, grow and experience greater relief. Hope is possible.
I value taking the time to get to know you, understand your experiences and build a genuine therapeutic relationship. I believe feeling safe, heard and understood is an essential part of the therapeutic process. I approach therapy from a collaborative, strengths-based perspective while recognizing that you are the expert of your own life. My role is to help you feel listened to, understood and empowered while creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment where we can explore new perspectives, develop skills and discover solutions together.
I believe therapy can be an opportunity to better understand yourself, recognize patterns and connect the dots between your past experiences and your current challenges. While you already have many strengths, therapy can provide a space to gain insight, increase self-awareness and develop strategies that support meaningful growth.
I specialize in helping individuals work through trauma, painful experiences and difficult symptoms that continue to impact their lives. I primarily use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy while also incorporating other evidence-based approaches to support your unique needs and goals. I believe healing from painful experiences is a personal process. It is an honor to walk alongside you as you gain understanding, process past experiences and move toward greater emotional well-being.
I incorporate evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness and strengths-based interventions. If you are struggling with negative thoughts, difficult emotions or unhelpful patterns, we can work together to better understand these experiences and develop practical strategies to move through challenges and work toward meaningful change.
A meaningful part of my work is working with adults who are feeling stuck, experiencing life or emotional challenges, navigating life transitions and seeking greater clarity, confidence and direction. You may find yourself feeling uncertain about relationships, career, school, identity or your next season of life. My goal is to provide a space where you feel supported, understood and empowered as you navigate these experiences while recognizing and building upon the resilience and strengths you already have.
For those who desire it, I am passionate about exploring mindfulness, personal values, spirituality and faith in therapy. I believe many of life’s challenges can improve when we slow down, become more present, reconnect with ourselves and focus on what gives our lives meaning. Therapy can be a space to pause, reflect and reconnect with the values, relationships, beliefs and experiences that matter most to you. My goal is to help you better understand what matters most to you and find ways to live more intentionally according to your own values, beliefs and personal strengths.
I work with individuals experiencing ADHD and other neurodivergent experiences, including the unique challenges that can come with them. If you are working through these experiences, I will work with you to better understand your strengths, develop personalized strategies and build tools related to focus, organization, emotional regulation and overall well-being.
I support couples who are navigating relationship challenges, whether you are experiencing significant disconnection, considering major relationship decisions such as separation or divorce, or simply looking to strengthen your connection and improve your relationship. I work with couples to improve communication, better understand one another, rebuild trust and develop healthier relationship patterns while respecting each person’s individual needs and autonomy. I also support parents as they navigate parenting challenges by recognizing and building upon their existing strengths.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I earned my Master of Social Work from Utah Valley University and my Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Science with an emphasis in Family Studies from Utah Valley University.
