Joshua Nelson, CSW,
About Joshua Nelson (He/Him)
Joshua Nelson helps adults throughout Utah navigate life’s challenges with practical support, clinical expertise, and a genuine commitment to helping people create meaningful change. As a therapist at LifeStance Health, he works with clients who are seeking greater clarity, emotional balance, and resilience in the face of difficult experiences. Joshua provides individual therapy for concerns such as anxiety, depression, and ADHD while supporting clients through a variety of additional mental health and life challenges. Joshua is particularly passionate about helping individuals address alcohol and drug use issues. He understands that substance use concerns often intersect with stress, emotional pain, relationships, self-esteem, and mental health conditions. His approach is focused on helping clients better understand the factors contributing to substance use, strengthen motivation for change, and develop sustainable strategies that support long-term wellness and recovery. He believes that lasting progress comes from a combination of self-awareness, practical skills, and compassionate support. In therapy, Joshua creates a collaborative environment where clients feel comfortable exploring their experiences without judgment. He integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based approaches to help clients identify unhelpful patterns, manage difficult emotions, and take meaningful steps toward their goals. In addition to his primary specialties of anxiety, depression, and alcohol and drug use issues, he offers support for concerns including grief, gender identity exploration, and other emotional and behavioral health challenges. Joshua believes that each person brings unique strengths and experiences into the counseling process. He works alongside clients to build on those strengths while helping them develop practical tools that can be applied in everyday life. His therapeutic style is warm, approachable, and goal-oriented, empowering clients to make positive changes while remaining connected to their values. Outside of his clinical work, Joshua enjoys staying active through pickleball, hiking, camping, lawn games, and game nights. He also enjoys video games, books, movies, and podcasts, interests that help him maintain balance and connection outside of work.
Joshua Nelson provides services with supervision.
