Use Jedi Wisdom to Enhance Your Life

By Nicholette Leanza, LPCC-S

As many Star Wars fans know, Yoda’s wisdom is not just for young Padawans who are training to become Jedi Masters. It can also be for anyone simply looking to enhance their lives and live more fully.

Yoda emphasized meditation and mindfulness as a way of understanding ourselves. Practicing these skills can bring deeper meaning to our lives.

Here are a few Jedi Mindfulness quotes by Yoda to ponder.

“Something lost. A part of yourself, perhaps. That which you seek, inside you will find.”

We have the tendency to look outside of ourselves when seeking answers to our life’s problems. Actually, we often know what we should do to solve a problem, but self-doubt can block our insights and potential solutions and so we think others know better. Frequently, our minds are cluttered with worry and stress and so when we quiet our minds, we hear the answers to our problems.

“Named must your fear be before banish it you can.”

Many people are imprisoned by various fears such as fear of rejection, fear of others not liking them or the fear of not being perfect. These types of fears often contribute to depression and anxiety. Once you recognize what your fear is, you can work on overcoming it, and then it will no longer control your life.

“You will find only what you bring in.”

Some people only see the negative in situations and so that is what they get out of their lives – more negative. If bad goes in, then bad comes out. If we can change our thoughts and perspectives to see what we can learn from difficult situations, then our views will naturally become more positive and we can begin to appreciate all the good things happening in our lives.

“Remember, always in motion is the future and many possible futures there are.”

How often do we worry about what will happen in the future? We waste time making up worst-case scenarios about what may happen and this nasty habit often paralyzes us from moving forward in our lives. It is helpful to consider all the possible positive and negative outcomes to a future event and this will prepare you more fully for the actual result. Better yet, focusing on the current moment and what is going well for you now will carry you into the future with a more positive perspective.

Finally, it’s not enough to simply ponder on these wise sayings from Yoda. The important point is that you need to take active steps to change your negative outlook and bad habits in order to truly improve your life. Becoming a Jedi is not just about reflecting on a new mindset but also incorporating it into daily practice. It is part of our human nature to want to live a genuine life with purpose and meaning.

May the Force be with you.
