When I first found Dr. Brett Leifson, I was at one of the lowest points of my life. I had been carrying the heavy weight of so many struggles, the greatest being the loss of my mother. That grief re-opened old wounds and triggered my PTSD after years of trying to keep it at bay. I felt lost, broken, and unsure if I could ever find steady ground again. From my very first session with Dr. Leifson, something shifted. He created an environment that felt safe, a space where I could let down my guard and truly begin the process of healing. He isn’t pushy, never makes me feel rushed or judged, and instead takes the time to listen, understand, and guide me with compassion. His approach is patient, thoughtful, and deeply rooted in genuine care for his patients’ well-being and success. What stands out the most is how much he truly cares. Mental health can be such a difficult and lonely battle, but with Dr. Leifson, I’ve never once felt like just another patient. He has been instrumental in helping me reach a breakthrough I didn’t think was possible, and because of his dedication, I feel stronger, safer, and more hopeful than I have in years. If you are struggling, if you feel like there’s no one who understands, I cannot recommend Dr. Brett Leifson enough. I have had an excellent experience with Brett Leifson PMHNP-BC in the Scottsdale office at Lifestance. From the very first appointment, he was very professional, attentive, and genuinely compassionate. Brett took the time to really listen, explain treatment options clearly and completely, and made me feel comfortable with the available treatment options. I feel heard and respected throughout the entire meeting process. His approach is thoughtful and personalized and I never felt rushed or “just another patient.” He is incredibly knowledgeable and worked with me to tailor the right treatment options that have truly made a life-changing difference in my day-to-day well-being over the past few months. He also works well and collaboratively when working with other Lifestance providers I have seen as well in the event you need assistance on multiple mental health levels like I have over the past several months. If you’re looking for a mental health provider who is caring, thorough, and easy to talk to, and can collaborate well with other Lifestance mental health specialists and providers effectively, I highly recommend Brett Leifson. I’m very satisfied with the support, treatment options information, and guidance I’ve received from him to date.

Updated on 4.03.2026: I'm not sure if the website patient portal has improved, but the office staff is very responsive, including the office manager and the team lead. I have changed my 2-star review to 4 stars today. Older comments: I've been with Lifestance for years; their website patient portal is the worst, in my opinion. My first complaint: The patient portal had wiped all patients of their current 2025 primary and secondary health insurance IN CASE IT MAY CHANGE for 2026. My primary and secondary insurances have not changed; they ask me to snapshot and upload them again. No, I told them to correct it. You wiped it; you can resolve it. Second complaint: I have a second, separate provider I'm seeing this week, but the patient portal won't let me advance to that appointment until my bill has been corrected, WHICH CAN TAKE THEM A WEEK. I don't understand how LifeStance can mess things up in a jiffy, but it takes a week to correct them. Third complaint: I hope they process my Medicare 2026 deductible proof of receipt payment quickly, or the portal won't let me access my new provider. I have always paid my bills in full and on time with Lifestance. All they need to do is review my account payment history.

I never leave google reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experiences and how transformational my life has been since meeting with Dr. Rice and Brett Leifson regularly over the past year. Almost a year ago to the day, I found myself more often than not struggling to function as a normal human with the amount of stress, anxiety, and pressure I placed on myself to be a "good person". To the point where I had forgotten how to love myself, and was starting to think that this was just the way life was after a certain point. But after meeting with my care team, and developing healthier habits around my emotions, dealing with stress and conflict, and digging deeper to understand how my brain works, I feel like I am excited to LIVE again! The same challenges, stress, and high expectation for myself still exist, but now I have the right tools and support to tackle my days with my best foot forward. Not only do I feel better, but I also have the ability to love myself again, laugh at my mistakes and short comings; which has made me a better friend, father, and husband along the way. Even on my darkest days now I have a bright light in hand to get back to the sunlight, thanks to the folks at LifeStance!

In my experience, truly exceptional clinicians are rare. Brett Leifson is one of them. He has a quality that defies the usual categories of “professional” and “personable” — somehow both deeply human and impeccably precise. From the first conversation, it was clear he wasn’t simply performing a role; he was listening, engaging, and genuinely caring. Brett carries an intelligence that doesn’t announce itself, it reveals itself through empathy, flexibility, and an almost uncanny ability to read where a person is at that exact moment. He manages to be approachable without ever being overly casual, formal without ever feeling distant — a balance I’ve never seen anyone else strike so naturally in a medical or therapeutic setting. Every session feels less like an appointment and more like a meeting of minds, guided by compassion and a shared sense of purpose. He remembers details, follows through, and adjusts thoughtfully — never formulaic, always human. Could not recommend more highly.
