About Nancy Johnston

Nancy has a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lewis University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Domestic Violence Professional. Nancy has experience working with kids, teens, and adults. Her areas of focus include anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, domestic violence, childhood trauma, grief, and relationship difficulties.

In therapy with Nancy, you’ll find a thoughtful, safe, down-to-earth space where you can explore what’s been getting in your way…and why. She blends different approaches depending on what feels most helpful for you, but at the heart of her work is a deep interest in how past experiences, emotions, and relationships shape the way we feel and function in the present. Her approach draws mainly from Psychodynamic and Coherence Therapy, which means paying close attention to the deeper emotional layers beneath symptoms. Together, you and Nancy will look at the patterns and beliefs that may have made sense at one point in your life but are now perhaps limiting or painful. When needed, Nancy also brings in tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you manage anxiety, mood, or other specific challenges.

Nancy is particularly passionate about working with survivors of domestic violence. She understands how complex and isolating these dynamics can be and approaches this work with a deep respect for each person’s pace, safety, and autonomy. Whether you’re in the process of leaving, healing from past abuse, or need support with your current experience, Nancy will support you without judgment and with a strong, steady presence.

Nancy’s goal isn’t just to help you “cope” but to help you understand yourself more fully, shift long-standing patterns, and feel more grounded in who you are. Therapy with her is collaborative, curious, and built around what matters most to you.
