Mark Butkus is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Maine who has been practicing since 2003. He has completed a Masters In Social Work, post-graduate therapy trainings for advanced licensure and works towards yearly continuing education. Mark has been working as a therapist in a variety of settings since 2003. As a Clinical Instructor at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Specialty Clinics, in a primary care setting that integrates mental health, as clinical director in therapeutic foster care, in Private practice, and most recently with the Veterans Administration. Working for the past decade in outpatient and private practice settings, Mark has honed the delicate and demanding core skills for working with people as a clinician. Mark has the ability to listen and understand complex emotional histories in order to assist a client towards expressing repressed and unresolved emotions. He uses this coupled with skills at teaching mindfulness and CBT techniques to facilitate replacing previous patterns of behaviors with consciously created positive change in their lives. Outside of therapy, Mark is a father, a soccer coach, a musician, and has done brick and tilework professionally. Before becoming a social worker, he worked as a commercial fisherman and in the field of research and statistics. He has lived in Maine, Virginia, Canada, and South Carolina. From a career spent learning to work with people in therapy, he offers a consistent, non-judgmental, therapeutic presence that affords the people the opportunity to create change and personal growth in their lives.
