Jennifer Jones earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Art History from Colby College, and her Masters of Social Work with a clinical concentration from Smith College. She completed her internships at the Yale Child Study Center, providing outpatient therapy for inner city children and families, and Shoreline Community Health, providing structural family therapy. Her masters’ thesis focused on the treatment of traumatized children. In addition Ms. Jones trained at the Theraplay Institute in Chicago, and has maintained a career long commitment to continuing education in psychotherapeutic models, trauma, mood disorders, autism, learning disabilities, mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapy. She has been a member of the National Association of Social Workers since 1995. Ms. Jones provides psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy for children, adolescents, adults, and families. Her clinical interests include mood disorders, grief and loss (including animal bereavement), LGBTQ+ issues, women’s issues, autism and other developmental disorders, learning disabilities, adoption and foster care, and change of life issues, such as divorce, aging, job loss. Ms. Jones has been fortunate to work with people from all over the world on diversity and acculturation. Jennifer believes in the power of change and uses a strengths perspective and connection to help people realize the change they desire to live better lives. She uses art and humor as part of her therapeutic tool kit. Jennifer is the adoptive mom of siblings with special needs and has a unique perspective on parenting and living with challenges and trauma. She lives with her family on a small urban farm outside Portland, Maine along with their chickens, ducks, dogs, cats and various other four legged creatures.
