Susan Pfau is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Minnesota who has been practicing since 2016. She earned her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at St. Mary’s University of MN and is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in Medical Family Therapy at Northcentral University with expected graduation in 2025. Susan changed careers after losing her son (28) to colon cancer. She realized how important mental health support was during those times. She facilitates cancer support groups for Gilda’s of MN and Angel Foundation.

Her passion is to walk alongside families experiencing a terminal or serious illness. Susan specializes in early childhood development and their mental health, individual life transitions, and family and couple issues. She has extensive training in DC: 0-5 diagnostic classification of mental health and development disorders of infancy and early childhood. She is a Registered Play Therapist and is certified in EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). She is trained in Experiential Play Therapy, Theraplay (attachment-based intervention for caregivers and their children), and Sand Tray Therapy.

She loves any kind of stereotypical self-care activity, including painting, puzzles, knitting, and meditation. In her spare time, Susan enjoys outdoor activities such as cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, paddle boarding, kayaking, biking, traveling, and spending time with her family and golden retrievers.

We like our therapist so far. Very knowledgeable and stays on topic. Clean and cozy place, which is important to me. Paperwork was easy enough to process. Staff is attentive.
