She received her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida and her Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida. Karen also received her certification in Family Mediation from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida and has completed Level I EMDR Training. Karen completed her clinical internship at Covenant House in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and continued her career in various positions working with community mental health services providing individual, group and family therapy. In 1999 Karen opened her private practice, serving families, couples, adults, children and adolescents while also serving as a Family Counselor for the Palm Beach County School District. In her capacity with the School District, Karen worked with a multidisciplinary team identifying students in K-12 with emotional and behavioral disabilities. She provided individual and group therapy for students within the educational setting and also provided support therapy for their parents and family members. Her duties also included partnering with educational staff to write Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and identifying educational accommodations for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities and children on the Autism Spectrum. In her private practice, Karen addresses clients with a variety of needs including marital and couples counseling, life transitions, LGBTQ and gender identity issues, divorce, blended families, parenting skills, anger management, trauma, mood disorders, personality disorders and self esteem issues. Karen utilizes a variety of clinical modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy, EMDR Level I, Motivational Interviewing and Reality Based Therapies that focus on changing thoughts and behaviors.
