Hello and Welcome! If you are reading this and thinking about finding help, thank you for taking the first step. I am a psychologist who has specialized in predominantly working with young children, adolescents, and their families since 2014. I can also work with adults, especially within the ages of 18 to 30; however, most of my work has been with people under the age of 18. While I started my career as a case manager for runaway and homeless youth, I began my first clinical position as a Functional Family Therapist (FFT). Ever since, I have continued to cultivate an approach that sees the child through the lens of their family and community systems. In so doing, this has helped me see individuals as so much more than simply a set of problems and has aided me in better understanding how through their lens certain behaviors seem completely understandable! Should you decide to work with me, you may often hear me say things like “It may not be your fault, but it is your responsibility” and “On one hand that makes a lot of sense and on the other, the negative impact of these noble intentions might be…” While I have a masters from Syracuse University and a Ph.D. from the University of Northern Colorado, I am a firm believer that people, especially kids, do not care about what you know until they know how much you care about them. More than a therapeutic orientation, which is heavily grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, research has shown that the best treatment outcomes come from the strength of the therapeutic relationship and thus, having a strong connection with clients that is as warm as it is truthful and genuine has always been my primary focus. In addition to serving as an FFT therapist, I have also served as an Intensive Outpatient Therapist working predominantly with kids coming right out of the hospital most often struggling with severe depression and anxiety. I would say that I am most comfortable with those groups of symptoms and furthermore, have also dedicated a significant amount of time working with people who struggle with symptomology related to attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism, substance abuse, relational difficulties, and especially oppositional behavior. In fact, I would say that most of kids I have worked with were severely struggling in school, if going at all, and started out strongly resistant to the idea of ever going to therapy! I may have more than likely felt similar at their age so sincerely, if you feel anything from me it is that I am the last person that will pass judgement on your situation. My hope as your psychologist is not only to help facilitate direction (I am not an advice giver!), but also to be someone who is in your corner to help you not feel like you have to do all this alone.
I will try my best to accommodate after school hours, but please be aware these these times are extremely limited. I will not be able to accommodate after school hours on a weekly or bi-weekly basis for individual therapy. I try to reserve after-school hours for family therapy.
