Janie Durston, MSW, LCSW,
About Janie Durston (She/Her)
Janie Durston helps adults and older adults across Utah navigate life’s challenges with compassion, curiosity, and evidence-based care. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with LifeStance Health, she provides individual therapy for people experiencing anxiety, depression, and PTSD/trauma, as well as a wide range of other mental health concerns. Janie creates a supportive, collaborative environment where clients can explore their experiences, build resilience, and develop practical skills that support meaningful and lasting change. Janie is particularly passionate about helping individuals process adoptee experiences and identity-related concerns. She understands that adoption can bring complex emotions, questions of belonging, grief, family dynamics, and lifelong self-discovery. Through a thoughtful and affirming therapeutic approach, she helps adoptees explore their unique stories, deepen self-understanding, and move toward healing and empowerment. She also supports clients facing women’s issues and major life transitions, recognizing that personal growth often emerges through periods of change. Her therapeutic style is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Janie tailors treatment to each client’s goals, helping them develop effective coping strategies, increase emotional flexibility, and create healthier patterns in their daily lives. In addition to her primary areas of focus, she offers support for concerns such as grief, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, life transitions, substance use issues, and other mental health challenges. Janie believes that strong therapeutic relationships are built on authenticity, respect, and a genuine commitment to understanding each person’s experiences. She strives to provide a space where clients feel seen, heard, and supported as they work toward improved emotional well-being and personal growth. Outside of her clinical work, Janie enjoys swimming, gardening, attending concerts, and creating lists for just about everything. She is also a horror aficionado, an adoptee rights activist, and a devoted admirer of aquatic mammals.
