Tristram Dashti-Gibson, MS, LCMHC

Tris Dashti-Gibson received a B.A. in Spanish from Harvard University. He earned an M.A. in Peace Studies from the University of Notre Dame, followed by an M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from Indiana University in South Bend, Indiana. He began his counseling career working a number of years with children, teens, and young adults at The Children’s Campus, a residential treatment program in Mishawaka, Indiana.

Over the years, Tris has worked as an outpatient therapist with adults and adolescents in agency and private practice settings. Since moving East, he worked at Maine Behavioral Healthcare specializing in family therapy and in adults with serious mental illness. Recently, he has worked with people with substance use disorders and trauma issues, providing individual and group therapy in an intensive outpatient program in Dover, NH.

In therapy, Tris seeks to understand and learn about the unique person or family group he is meeting with; and to build upon their experience, insight, and strength by working to develop an open, honest, and trusting relationship. He believes in clients’ ability to grow and heal by focusing on present goals and skills; or by addressing past trauma, family dynamics, and other types of issues.

Counseling sessions may focus in on thinking, emotions, behavior patterns, relationships / communication, or our social environment. Issues of identity (sexual orientation, gender, race, spirituality/religion, veteran status, and so on), the effects of prejudice, and social change may move to front and center stage for some people. The process of telling and retelling one’s story, with deeper self-compassion, understanding, and new perspective and insight, can become the foundation of personal growth and transformation.

Clients can feel free to learn more about EMDR, and to talk to Tris about how it may be helpful in leaving trauma, and other stressful experiences, in the past; and then moving forward with more peace, happiness, and confidence.
