My Honest Oura Ring Review: How It Supports My Sleep, Stress, and Wellbeing

I’ve had my beloved Oura Ring 3 for a few years now, and here’s my review in a nutshell: I love it. While I absolutely understand that it’s a pricey wellness wearable device and you don’t need it to be well, it’s something I personally really enjoy. For me, it’s been a helpful way to stay more aware of my sleep patterns, stress, and daily habits that impact my overall wellbeing.

Here’s a closer look at what an Oura Ring does and the specific reasons it’s earned a permanent spot on my hand.

What Is an Oura Ring?

In case you’re not familiar, the Oura Ring is a sleek, wearable smart ring designed to track your body’s biometric signals 24/7, including sleep, stress, activity, and more, all through sensors that sit against your finger. When paired with the Oura mobile app, it turns that data into easy-to-understand insights to help you monitor your overall health and wellness.

How My Oura Ring Supports My Wellbeing

Here are the reasons I love the Oura Ring and all the ways it supports my personal wellbeing on a day-to-day basis.

  1. It’s Stylish and Minimal

One of the things that sold me right away is that the Oura Ring isn’t bulky or flashy. Unlike some wrist trackers, it’s minimal, chic, and looks like jewelry, so it fits seamlessly with everyday style, even when I’m wearing multiple rings or other accessories. It may seem like a trivial thing, but because it isn’t intrusive or unattractive, I’m way more likely to wear it all the time, which is key for accurate tracking.

Plus, it’s water-resistant up to around 100 meters, meaning I literally never take it off other than to charge it every few days. It’s also very lightweight and comfortable. You barely notice it’s there.

  2. The App and Interface Are User Friendly

I find the Oura app to be intuitive and easy to navigate, even for folks who aren’t super tech-savvy. I actually look forward to checking my scores every morning. It’s become a fun and motivating daily habit that helps me stay in tune with my wellbeing.

  3. It Tracks Stress-Related Indicators

One of the insights I find most valuable is the stress‑related signals it provides, which helps me notice when I might be feeling more strained than usual. If my readings show that I’ve been under higher stress and not getting enough restorative recovery time, I take it as a sign to slow down and get some rest. I’ve started adjusting my routine based on these cues, and I’ve personally noticed a difference in how I approach busy days.

  4. It Tracks Sleep

Sleep is everything to me, especially after having my son and navigating the unpredictable world of newborn sleep patterns. The Oura Ring became a godsend for me during that time. Even when my sleep was broken up into little pockets throughout the day and night, the ring gave me a sense of how much rest I was getting.

When I get what Oura calls a “sleep crown” (a top-tier sleep score), I feel like I can conquer the world.

  5. It Tracks Activity Levels

Beyond sleep and stress, the ring helps me keep tabs on my steps and overall activity levels. For someone who works from home and could easily spend most of the day sitting in front of the computer, this gentle nudge has encouraged me to be more mindful about moving throughout the day, even if it’s just a walk around the block.

  6. It Offers a Readiness Score

The readiness score gives a general snapshot of sleep, activity, recovery, and other data. I personally use it as a guide for how I might approach the day. When my readiness score is high, I know I’m in a good place to take on challenges. When it’s low, it’s a helpful reminder to go easy on myself that day.

  7. It Tracks Body Temperature

While Oura isn’t a dedicated menstrual cycle tracker, it does track body temperature trends and that may be helpful for some people who want additional data around cycle patterns.

  8. It Helps Me Stay in Tune With My Overall Wellbeing

Overall, I’ve found that my Oura Ring has helped me become more aware of how activities, stress, rest, and movement may be connected in my daily life. For example:

    • On days when I’m operating with a constant sense of urgency, my stress scores tend to be higher. That’s usually my cue to slow down and build in moments of rest.
    • If I go to bed feeling anxious, it shows up in my sleep score. Because of that, I’ve made it a habit to wind down with something calming before bed, such as journaling, so I can set myself up for better sleep.
    • On weekends when I balance social plans with intentional downtime, my readiness score feels more stable and I notice I actually enjoy those days more, too.

In other words, it’s not just data. It’s context that helps me make conscious decisions about my day-to-day routines.

The Oura Ring Cons

Of course, the Oura Ring is not perfect and it comes with some drawbacks:

  • Oura Ring Price: The ring itself is an investment. As of publication, the sleek Oura Ring 4 ranges from $349 to $499 depending on the finish.
  • Oura Ring Subscription Cost: In addition to purchasing the ring, Oura requires a membership to unlock most of the app’s insights. After a complimentary trial month, the membership costs about $5.99/month or $69.99/year. For some, that ongoing subscription feels like a downside, especially on top of the initial cost of the device.

The Takeaway: Is The Oura Ring Worth It?

So, do you need an Oura Ring to be healthy? No. But do I find it to be very helpful for supporting my personal wellbeing awareness and routines? Absolutely.

If you’re in the market for a wellness tracker, appreciate subtle, wearable tech, and have the budget for it, the Oura Ring is definitely something worth considering in my opinion. The insights it offers have helped me become more mindful about how I care for myself and that in itself has been worth it.
