Therapist in Milwaukee, Wisconsin Christopher Sloan, LCSW

Christopher Sloan, LCSW

Chris Sloan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Wisconsin who has been practicing since 2019. Chris has a diversity of experience and knowledge. Before earning his degree in social work, he earned his Master’s in English and Literature. Chris still loves art and the humanities. His passion for understanding the communication and expression of ideas lends itself readily to the work he does now. As much as Chris love ideas, he went back to school to get his Master’s in social work because he wanted to be able to help people in more practical and direct ways. Chris has worked in different settings such as crisis stabilization, case management, facilitating groups and doing therapy. He has worked with people needing help for substance use disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, depression, anxiety, and trauma. Chris has worked with adults, teens, and families. Having worked with many different people, he’s come to appreciate and value how unique everyone and their experiences are. Chris wants to help people to make the changes they want to in order to be who they want to be, their best selves. When people are able to be at their best, they can be there for the people around them and give their best effort in their careers and personal pursuits. Chris believes this is important because everyone has something unique to offer the world, and when people are able to reach their potential, we all benefit. Chris tries to take a human approach in his practice with evidence-based practice as its backbone. By human approach he means that while he uses methods that have been shown to be effective in studies, he also tries to respect that everyone is unique and that not all things can be reduced down to something that can be conveniently labeled or generalized. Chris practices unconditional high regard and will treat your problems with the seriousness and respect they deserve. Outside of work Chris is fond of playing with her dog and taking her for walks. Her name is Hedwig (he calls her Hedy, like Hedy Lamar). He enjoys reading (his favorite genre is science fiction) and watching movies. He especially likes to watch old obscure movies with his friend. He lives across the country now so they have to connect virtually, but they make time for it regularly. He learned violin when he was younger but didn’t play for years. A couple of years ago he picked it up again, and since have tried to practice at least once a week, trying to learn new songs for fun. He appreciates all the time he gets to spend with friends and has gotten more into playing board games in recent years. His family is important to him, and he tries to spend all the time with them that he can. He cherishes all the time he gets to spend with his partner and they enjoy hiking and backpacking together.
