Danielle Sumida, LCSW

Hello! I’m Danielle. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked in the mental health field for over four years providing psychotherapy services to children, adolescents, and adults in individual, group, and family therapy settings. I have experience working with a variety of mental health issues including depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma and stressor-related disorders, ADHD, adjustment disorders, disruptive disorders, child abuse, family conflict, and relational issues. I approach my work using the following therapeutic theories: psychodynamic psychotherapy, attachment-based theory, and family systems theory. I use these theories in conjunction with other treatment modalities such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Gestalt Therapy, and Play/Art Therapy. I also enjoy incorporating other types of helpful techniques such as grounding and mindfulness, and encouraging a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle. I have volunteered and received much training while working with survivors of human trafficking, both foreign (Thailand) and domestic (USA). I also have had extensive training and experiencing working very closely within the LGBTQ+ community, another marginalized yet resilient group of remarkable individuals. My experiences, both personal and professional, have allowed me the life-changing opportunity to watch these groups of people rise and thrive amidst much adversity, heartache, and trauma.

As humans, we all share in the universal experience of pain, heartache, and grief, but we are each individuals with our own unique personalities, passions, needs, and desires. I work hard to make sure my clients are seen and heard distinctly for their individuality (what makes them unique), while also reminding them that they are not alone on their journey. We are all human, and to reach out and ask for support is the first step in recognizing and acknowledging our basic human need (and right) for connection. I believe that true healing is not merely a result of what the therapist alone brings to session, but as a result of the beautiful connection and foundational relationship that is formed between therapist and client through safety, trust, stability, consistency, and vulnerability. I understand that to be truly seen, heard, and accepted for who we are as we are, allows for the best type of healing work to take place. I look forward to meeting with you as we work together to find your voice, cultivate hope, and promote self-awareness, growth, and peace.
