Jim Troyer, PhD, LRC

Since December of 2022, Jim has been a resident in counseling with the Commonwealth of Virginia. He is a retired Air Force veteran and a native of Ohio and has been stationed in Europe, the Far East, and in multiple locations stateside. He holds a PhD in organizational psychology from Capella University, with a specialization in occupational stress. He coached and consulted business owners and used personality assessments to make hiring recommendations. Wanting to make a meaningful difference in peoples’ lives outside of the work-center, Jim obtained his master’s in clinical mental health counseling with South University and relies upon an integrative approach to meet each client’s needs. He relies upon techniques from talk and behavioral-based therapeutic techniques to include aspects of dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive processing therapy, motivational interviewing, somatic and sensorimotor therapies, and meditation and yoga-based strategies. He enjoys working with adolescents, adults, and couples with a wide range of issues to include trauma, ADHD, anxiety, and depression. Jim prefers using non-directive and person-centered strategies to extend compassion to people from their position as they work to reach their goals and aspirations. When he is not working, Jim enjoys hiking, biking, motorsports, and cares for three cats.
