Kayla Smiley is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Illinois. She earned a bachelor’s degree in forensic psychology from Western Illinois University and a master’s degree from Lewis University. Kayla’s clinical experience has allowed her to work with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, personality disorders, mood disorders, trauma, and other compulsive behaviors. Furthermore, coming from a family comprised of military veterans and first responders provides her with personal knowledge and understanding for the specialized care needed within those populations. Kayla utilizes a behavioral approach which focuses on helping clients develop insight into their behaviors, as well as healthy skills to manage distressing emotions to increase one’s quality of life. She uses a variety of techniques such as DBT, ACT, CBT, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy to help clients live a healthier life. Kayla enjoys working with teenagers and adults and utilizes different techniques within sessions to help clients feel safe and supported. Taking the necessary steps to begin therapy can be challenging and evoke different emotions as you maneuver through the process. You may be feeling fearful and as if you are alone with the emotions you are experiencing. Kayla’s goal is to create a safe space for clients to process and grow from difficult life events.
