Laura Young, PMHNP
Laura Young is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in Kansas who has been practicing since 2021. Laura was born and raised in Kansas. Her post high school education began at Kansas City Kansas Community College, obtaining her Associates of Science in Nursing in 2009 at the young age of 20 years old on a presidential scholarship awarded from high school. She then went on to working as a bedside nurse for over 12 years. Laura went back to college, obtaining her Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing from MidAmerica Nazarene University in 2018 while working. She continued to excel in her career, being nominated many times for Daisy Nursing awards, obtaining her trauma nurse certification, and being a charge nurse in the unit, along with responding to trauma activations in the emergency room. Laura found a passion for mental health along the way and decided to go back to school for her master’s degree and specialize as a psychiatric nurse practitioner. During those three years of graduate school, she continued to work full time in the intensive care unit. She was a frontline worker in the Covid pandemic and worked countless hours caring for the critically ill during this time, while still holding onto her passion of mental health. Laura completed over 800 hours of clinical time with social workers, therapists, and a psychiatrist, along with completing her nurse practitioner degree in August 2021 from Maryville University. She went on to achieve board certification in September 2021. Laura accepted a prescriber position at Cerebral in October 2021. She treats multiple mental health disorders by both diagnosis and medication management. Laura remains passionate about mental healthcare and is a major advocate for mental health in her community and beyond. In her free time, Laura enjoys the outdoors and traveling with her husband and son, and lives in Kansas.
