Sarah Higgins is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in the state of New Hampshire and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Massachusetts. Sarah completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2006. She continued her formal education at Lesley University and earned her Master of Arts degree in Mental Health Counseling and Expressive Therapies in 2008.

While studying at Lesley University, Sarah completed an internship at Franciscan Children’s Hospital in Brighton, Massachusetts where she provided individual and group counseling for young children with developmental disabilities and behavioral disturbances. Prior to that, Sarah completed an internship program at Sherrill House nursing facility in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts where she provided individual and group counseling for the geriatric population.

Upon completion of her M.A. degree, Sarah’s experience has grown to include work with a wide variety of populations from infants/young children to adults in diverse settings such as: community based mental health, inpatient dual diagnosis facilities, employee assistance programs (EAP), and skilled nursing care. Sarah has had leadership roles in both mental health and substance abuse treatment settings.

Sarah utilizes a blended treatment approach which includes but is not limited to evidence-based practices such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Expressive Therapies, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Sarah is familiar with crisis intervention and crisis stabilization/de-escalation strategies. She is also very knowledgeable regarding substance abuse issues and treatment.

Sarah works with individuals age 18+ who are struggling with a variety of conditions such as: anxiety, depression, substance abuse, grief/loss, stress/burn out, self esteem/self-image issues, and general life stressors.
