Personal philosophy: Seek to understand, empower to grow.I believe effective therapy must occur in an environment of safety, trust, collaboration and a true connection between the therapist and the client. You deserve to feel understood, respected and supported. My work is to help you minimize the gap between where you are today and where you want to be. As a highly engaged therapist, I believe in the restorative power of therapy. We are all putting together the puzzle pieces of our lives without knowing what the final picture is going to look like. I have sat with many people in profound moments of loss and heartache when unexpectedly meaning begins to emerge as they piece together the broken parts of their life. That meaning is durable and even transformative. There is a lasting strength that comes when we don’t hide or ignore the dark and shadowy pieces and recognize we not only need them but they are an integral part of the beauty of the whole picture. I work from a strength based perspective to help you build on your personal resilience to feel more grounded, more fulfilled and to experience more joy in your life. I believe we grow when we feel safe and respected in our relationships. The first of which is with yourself. Sadness, uncertainty, disappointment and grief are natural feelings. Feeling chronic anxiety, hopelessness, and inadequacy, or being paralyzed by fear, are not. Together we can explore what might have led to these unrelenting feelings and work to better understand the hurt and gently heal. I believe that true healing only comes when we pay close attention to both our mind and our body. I am trained in marriage and family therapy (MFT), systems theory, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), non-violent crisis intervention (NVCI). I take a person-centered, strengths-based approach. I am also informed by narrative therapy, positive psychology and spirituality in mental health. Many of my clients have commented to me about my warmth and the general feeling of acceptance they feel from me. I have been described as straight forward, an active listener and a strong advocate. Take some time to get to know me and my practice. When you feel ready send me please reach out. I look forward to getting to know YOU more. How I got here I earned my Bachelors of Science in Family Studies at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and then my Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy after graduating from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 2001. I have been practicing outpatient therapy off and on since that time but always remained in the industry whether in direct practice or management positions. My professional career began doing therapy with children and families and then working with individuals with serious mental illness at BJC Behavioral Health. During my time there I received over 60 hours of training in DBT and became certified in 2008. I then opened a private practice for a time. I have worked in various roles in the mental/behavioral health sector to date with my most recent role being Vice President of Behavioral Health for a Certified Community Behavioral Health Organization in St. Louis, MO.Today, I have a wide ranging practice. I see individuals of all ages and prefer teens or older (ages 13+). Many people come to me struggling with workplace stress, relationships and generalized anxiety or depression and find my tangible and insight oriented approach is helpful as they work to care for themselves. I have supported therapists for decades and provide therapy for therapists as well as clinical supervision for licensure.
