Timothy Runk, LICSW
Tim Runk is an independent clinical social worker (LICSW), licensed in New Hampshire. He has received both a bachelor’s degree in Communication and a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of New Hampshire. He has been committed to human service work since 1989 and brings 30+ years of experience to his practice. He has worked with people of varying backgrounds and identities looking for help to manage a broad spectrum of challenges.
His knowledge base and skills have expanded through employment in a variety of settings: outpatient counseling; inpatient treatment; drug court; college counseling; group home care; partial hospitalization programs and foster care placements. He has supervised and trained graduate student interns and master’s level clinicians, developed curriculum and designed treatment programs. He has extensive experience in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of mental health disorders. He has worked not only with people who have sought therapy voluntarily, but also with those who have done so under court order or because of some form of external pressure.
Tim uses an integrative approach to treatment, incorporating techniques from Cognitive“Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Existentialism and Positive Psychology. He holds the rank of 5th Degree Black Belt in Isshin-Ryu Karate and Kobudo, and he often incorporates elements of Eastern Philosophy into his treatment approach.
People seek therapy with Tim for many varied reasons: to restore self-confidence; to find ways to connect with other people; to rebuild relationships; to find relief from pain; to set and achieve goals; to rediscover a sense of purpose; to recover and bounce back from loss; or to learn to relax and find joy in life. He believes that the process of mental health counseling requires the right blend of compassion, mutual respect, humor, and willingness to step into fresh territory together.
Tim sees his role as a facilitator and a guide “ someone who can lay the groundwork for moments of change. His goal is to help others break free of their limiting beliefs and start creating the lives they genuinely want for themselves. That may mean offering a fresh perspective, teaching a new concept or strategy, listening with an open mind, or helping sort through a range of confusing options.
